What is GaAs?

GaAs is the scientific abbreviation for the chemical compound gallium arsenide. GaAs is a semiconductor commonly used to create integrated circuits and field-effect transistors (FETs), which are necessary for ultra-high radio frequency applications.

Applications for GaAs Wafers

Gallium arsenide boasts high electron mobility and can function at frequencies exceeding hundreds of GHz. Although GaAs is not a wide bandgap material, it has a wider bandgap than silicon, making it more resistant to radiation. This radiation resistance, and a high threshold for heat, make GaAs wafers especially effective in the defense and aerospace industries.
